These are unprecedented times.

No one has ever seen anything like this, and no one knows what is coming next.

It’s a miracle anyone gets out of bed in the morning, isn’t it?

How do we get up each day, in the middle of such turmoil, and put one foot in front of the other?

How do we move forward when things are so tough around us?

Here are simple truths to help you through a rough time; 7 truths to tell yourself when things get hard.

7 Truths to Tell Yourself When Things Get Hard

1. This too shall pass.

This is one of my late grandpa’s favorite sayings; it cuts straight to the heart of matters.

It’s true. No matter what it is, it will not always be this way. It will pass, it will end.

Good times and bad, everything changes.

This thing you’re facing right now, one day it will be over too.

2. It’s going to be okay.

It might not feel like it. Maybe it’s doesn’t feel like it at all.

But it’s true.

It’s going to be okay, and so are you.

3. Take it one day at a time.

It’s easy to want to look far ahead and try to see what the future holds.

But not only is it impossible, especially in quickly changing situations like these, but it just adds to your stress.

Instead, focus on baby steps. Little by little.

Take it one day at a time, focusing on just the day in front of you.

Tomorrow will take care of itself.

4. Just Breathe.

In, out.

In, out.

When all else fails, take a big, deep breath.

Repeat as many times as necessary, and keep going.

5. Just do the next thing.

Hard times make people feel paralyzed.

They make us feel frozen, stuck, and completely overwhelmed.

You might find your motivation gone.

Perhaps you feel like you’ve lost your anchor and are now drifting, lost at sea.

It’s easier to do nothing.

To just go back to bed.

Instead, just do the next thing.

Whatever the next step is, do that.

Maybe it’s taking a shower, or maybe it’s making your bed.

Maybe it’s doing something with your kids, or maybe it’s making lunch.

Whatever it is, just do the next thing. And then the next. And then the next.

Keep moving forward.

6. You’re not alone.

It might feel like you are all alone, especially in the middle of a hard time.

But you’re not. You are not alone.

There are people who love you; people who want to help you.

And in many situations, there are other people hurting just like you are.

You might feel alone in your pain and suffering.

But you are never alone.

7. We are all in this together.

Especially in situations like this, great comfort can be found in this truth: we are all in this together.

No one is facing this alone.

No one has to handle it by themselves.

We are all in this wild, crazy, never-before-seen situation together, and we can lean on each other to get through.

Hard times can bring out the worst in us.

They make us withdraw.

They make us doubt.

They make us question ourselves and our world.

So when tough times come, it’s more important than ever to speak truth to yourself.

Words have power, and what you tell yourself when things get hard directly impacts your life.

So, speak life to yourself.

Speak hope to yourself.

Speak faith to yourself.

It’s all going to be okay, and we are all in this together.
