Essential oils are a versatile item to have in your home.

They smell amazing and can be used for a ton of physical issues and ailments, but they can also sanitize your home, and get it feeling nice and clean.

They are a natural antibacterial agent which makes for a great homemade cleaner for your home.

We’ve got a list of the top essential oils for cleaning your house. You’re going to love it!

Note: if you create one of these homemade cleaners, use a glass container or glass spray bottle. Essential oils can break down plastic very quickly, so using glass is recommended.  Also, essential oils can break down in sunlight and become less effective, so make sure to use a dark colored spray bottle or store out of the sun.

Homemade Cleaners Using Essential Oils

Multi-Use Room Cleaners

Floor Cleaner: In a gallon bucket of warm water, pour in 1/4 cup of vinegar, then add in 5 drops Eucalyptus, 5 drops Peppermint, and 5 drops Orange. Then mop as normal.

Window Cleaner: 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1 1/2 cup water, 5 drops lavender. Pour into a spray bottle, shake well and then spray windows to wipe down. Use a towel to wipe down windows. You can use peppermint or lemon in replace of lavender if you prefer those smells.

Wood Cleaner: 1/3 cup olive oil, 1/3 cup vinegar, 15 drops Orange or Lemon Oil. Pour in a spray bottle, shake well with each use. Spray onto a rag and then wipe down any wood surface to clean and freshen it up.

Carpet Cleaner: 1 cup baking soda, 15-20 drops of your favorite scent of essential oil. Can be lavender, peppermint, lemon, or any other one. Mix together in a container. Sprinkle over the carpet, let sit for 20 minutes, then vacuum up.

Kitchen Cleaners

All-Purpose Kitchen Cleaner: 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup water, 10 drops lavender oil, 5 drops lemon oil, 1 drop peppermint. Pour into a bottle and shake well before each use. NOTE: Do not on marble or granite, as the vinegar can hurt them. If you decide to use, test it out.  You can apply to clean counters, door handles and more.

Garbage Disposal: 1/2 cup vinegar, and 5 drops of lemon or orange. Pour the vinegar into the garbage disposal followed by the drops of lemon or orange. Let it stand for 4 hours to overnight, and then run water down the drain for a few minutes. This will deodorize and clean.

Sink Cleaner: 1/3 cup vinegar, 5 drops of lavender oil, baking soda, and then 1/3 cup witch hazel. Pour the vinegar, witch hazel, and lavender oil in a spray bottle. Shake well and then spray over the sink. Then take baking soda and sprinkle over the sink where you sprayed. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and then use a sponge and wash it away.

Bathroom Cleaners

All-Purpose Cleaner for Bathroom: 2 cups warm water, 1 tablespoon baking soda, 2 tablespoons liquid dish soap, 20 drops tea tree oil, 10 drops lemon or orange oil. Pour into a spray bottle. Shake well with each use, and then spray on area let sit a minute then wipe away. Works on counters, around the toilet, grout, tile, and even floor.

Grout Cleaner: 1/2 cup Borax, 1/2 Cup Baking Soda, 1/4 Cup white vinegar, 5 drops Cinnamon Oil, 5 Drops Clove. Mix all ingredients in a bowl, and create a paste. Rub it onto the grout, and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then rinse it away. I do recommend wearing gloves, as the oils can irritate your skin.

Toilet Cleaner: 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/3 cup liquid dish soap, 20 drops Eucalyptus, 10 drops Peppermint, 3/4 cup water. Mix together and put some in the toilet, scrub and let stand for 15 minutes and then flush.

Shower Spray: 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol, 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap, 10 drops Tea Tree oil, 10 drops Lemon Oil. Spray on your shower daily, and wipe clean.

Bedroom

Mattress Cleaner: Mix 1 cup baking soda with 10 drops lavender or peppermint oil. Sprinkle over the bed, and let it stand for 2 hours. Then vacuum it up. This is great for freshening up your mattress. You can do this every other month.

Detox Pillows: Clean pillows as directed on their label. Then when you toss in the dryer on low heat, add a few drops of lavender. It will be soothing and a great way to lower allergens.

Bedroom Spray: 1 cup water, and 15 drops of your oil of choice. Use lavender, rosemary, tea tree, or Siberian Fir. These are airborne antimicrobials and work great in your room. Shake bottle with each use, and spray on the mattress and around the room to freshen. You can do this daily.

Whether you buy one of the top tier essential oil brands or essential oils from Amazon, the cleaning benefits are huge! Plus, you can save money and cabinet space by using essential oils for cleaning your house.
